LAGUTA, LINDBACK, LINDGREN IN 2011 SGP THERE
will be one new face in the 2011 Grand Prix series for sure after
Russian teenager Artem Laguta sprang something of a surprise by winning
the GP Challenge in Vojens. Laguta took top spot on the rostrum in
Denmark and will be joined in next year’s SGP series by Antonio Lindback
and Freddie Lindgren, the latter beating Poland’s Janusz Kolodziej and
fellow Swede Magnus Zetterstrom in a run-off for the third qualifying
position. Full coverage from Vojens in this week’s edition, plus we talk
to Stoke’s Claus Vissing about his shock suspension from racing for the
rest of the season following a ban imposed by the Danish authorities.
There’s longtrack success for Britain’s Andrew Appleton in Eenrum,
Eastbourne boss Bob Dugard on his view that Britain’s Elite League plays
‘second fiddle’ to Poland and injury problems for Premier League
Berwick and Scunthorpe, who lose Michal Rajkowski and Jerran Hart
respectively.

GOLLOB BACK ON TOPTOMASZ
Gollob regained the World Championship lead in Malilla despite Rune
Holta winning round seven of this year’s SGP series. Gollob opened with
four race wins but was excluded for knocking off comeback man Emil
Sayfutdinov in his final outing. That had no impact on the Pole’s
progress into the first semi-final, which he duly won, but in the final,
he was relegated to third by Holta and Jason Crump. Gollob’s 20-point
haul was still sufficient to see him overhaul former leader Jarek
Hampel, who mustered 10, but went out in the first semi. Full coverage
from Sweden in this week’s issue, along with reports and pictures from
the Premier League Fours at Peterborough where Birmingham emerged
triumphant from Edinburgh, Somerset and Sheffield. Also in this edition,
all the week’s big news from around the speedway world, including a new
arrival at Elite League Swindon, a blow for Stoke and their Danish star
Claus Vissing, and more injury woes for National League Rye House
Cobras.
