LONG-TIME Newcastle team manager George English (pictured) has announced that he is standing down from his position.
The Diamonds co-promoter looked set to continue in his role following the takeover of the club by Rob Grant in the winter, but has now had a change of heart. English said: "Newcastle Speedway means so much to me and although Rob wanted me to stay on as team manager for this season, I felt the time was right to step aside and leave the way clear, and not have the past interfere with the new programme. "I can only wish Rob every success in the future, and if that is the case then there will be nobody happier than me as that would mean Newcastle Speedway is progressing well and continuing into the future."
