BRITAIN'S Robert Lambert is the joint leader of the European Championship following the opening round of the tournament in Torun on Saturday.
The King's Lynn rider and Sheffield's Nicki Pedersen share top spot on 14 points, although it was World No. 2 Leon Madsen who took the first night honours with a come-from-the-back win in the final. Lambert said: "It's great to come out of this meeting as the leader, but there's still a long way to go and we're going to keep fighting for every point. "In any kind of Championship you're always looking for the top spot, and I'm also looking to stay in the top five for the following season. "It gives a little bit more this year with the top spot being able to get into the Grand Prix, so that's definitely a goal on the horizon." Round two takes place in Bydgoszcz on Wednesday.
