WELL-KNOWN former rider and promoter Graham Drury has died at the age of 71.
Chester-born Graham had been heavily involved in the sport for nearly 50 years, graduating from grasstrack into speedway and serving a number of clubs, starting out with Rochdale in 1971 and going on to represent Ellesmere Port, Crewe, Hull, Oxford and Long Eaton. After retiring from racing in the mid-1980s, Graham ventured into promotion to launch indoor ice racing at Telford with his former Hull boss Ian Thomas. He went on to be co-promoter/team manager at Long Eaton, Stoke, Mildenhall, Workington and Birmingham. Speedway Star joins the rest of the speedway world in sending condolences to Graham's wife Denise and his family and friends. • A full tribute to Graham will appear in our monthly obituaries column.
