GREAT Britain have won the Speedway of Nations for the second time.
Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley defeated Jack Holder and Brady Kurtz of Australia in the Final having earlier overcome Sweden in the Grand Final Qualifier. The Australians (36) topped the qualifying scorechart, one ahead of Great Britain (35) and comfortably clear of the third-placed Swedes on 27. Germany (26) finished a surprise fourth ahead of Poland (24), Denmark (21) and Latvia (20). Lambert and Bewley, who won the Nations on the same track in 2021, settled into second and third place behind Fredrik Lindgren in the qualifying race against Sweden and kept Jacob Thorssell at the back for a 5-4. In the Final, Lambert jumped out into the lead but Kurtz moved alongside partner Holder on the second lap to relegate Bewley to the back. However, the home rider reacted immediately to cut inside the Australian duo off the fourth corner and followed Lambert to the chequered flag for a title-clinching 7-2. Lambert said: “We had a great week with the boys and that just showed in the pits and in everything we were doing. “We stayed calm and took it race by race. It was a bit touch and go when we needed to have the semi to get into the Final, but we managed to do it. “Dan was really battling to make sure we could bring home the gold, and I was just making sure I didn’t make any mistakes and keeping in front. “We did a great job and I’m so happy with a second World Championship for GB.” PICTURE: JAREK PABIJAN
