GLASGOW have revealed that they will not be taking part in the 2020 SGB Championship season "“ if there is one.
With British speedway bosses still hoping to launch a shortened league campaign in late summer, Government restrictions permitting, the Tigers announced their decision to withdraw on Monday night. In a lengthy statement published on their club website (https://www.glasgowtigers.org/club-statement-2020/), the Glasgow management declared: "Every speedway club is different and their own circumstances will be different to ours in terms of the size, layout and capacity of their stadium, the number of average attendees they get at each home fixture, what their own rider availability is like, and geographically where they sit in the country. We send our best wishes to those clubs who wish to take part in a shortened season, but it's just not for us given all the challenges it presents." In response, British Speedway chairman Rob Godfrey commented: "We have been aware of Glasgow's concerns in recent weeks and our fixture planning has continued with and without them. "We respect Glasgow's decision and we are also pleased they made the point that each club has different circumstances. "However we can confirm the majority of clubs still wish to press ahead with a season if this is possible "“ and despite Glasgow's decision there remains an air of cautious optimism throughout British Speedway."
