THE Russian and German Grands Prix have become the latest casualties of the coronavirus pandemic.
Both rounds have been scrapped by the FIM and series promoters BSI Speedway, which means eight of the 10 SGPs on this year's original World Championship itinerary have now been called off. The organisers have confirmed that the Anatoly Stepanov Stadium in Togliatti and Teterow's Bergring Arena will host rounds in 2021 and the date for the German GP has already been confirmed for Saturday, May 22 next year. Work is ongoing to salvage the 2020 World Championship and Paul Bellamy, Managing Director & SVP of Motorsports, IMG, revealed: "We are disappointed to be cancelling two of our most popular events, but we look forward to sharing more detail in the coming weeks about the 2020 World Championship contingency plan we're developing with the FIM, involving a minimum of eight Speedway Grand Prix events."
