But first, he will have to spend the winter months in recuperation after surgery on a serious left knee injury. In this week’s magazine, he reveals: “Because the operation is so complicated, I will have three weeks on the bed after surgery. That’s because the nerve cannot move at all, it’s got to be fully stretched out. But that’s a pain for the ACL recovery because that needs movement. I spoke to my physios and they said I should be okay for the 2025 season, so that remains my first target and everyone is confident of that happening. It’s my first real injury in eight years of speedway. Maybe the crash itself and what happened afterwards is a little bit frightening. But in eight years I’ve only broken my arm and then this. I have always been told that if I wanted to be the World Champion, I had to eat, sleep and live speedway. There is just no other way. It is about dedicating yourself to this sport 100 per cent. SPENDING most of the season on the sidelines recovering from injury is a rider's nightmare, but at least Ipswich’s Jason Doyle can take some big positives from 2024, not least of which was a Grand Prix win in Warsaw in May. In this week's magazine, the Australian reveals: "(It was) the emotion of thinking that I was the only one that believed I could win a Grand Prix again. I know that I had a lot of backing from my mechanics and family. But I thought I could win one when no-one else did. A lot of people were saying 'get out of the Grand Prix, you're too old'. That really gave me a lot more drive to win one. You see Freddie (Lindgren) now, he's flying at his age. Age now has gone to 47 or 48. Previously most people retired at 38 or 40, or 42 max. This year I came in with a different mindset. I had the right people around me. I can let them think about set-ups. Having a bit of confidence with the guys in the pits just allows me to sit on it and ride it. In the Grand Prix and Poland, it's small margins now. All these kids are so quick."

BRITAIN'S Robert Lambert says he will be setting his sights even higher after finally winning his first Speedway Grand Prix in Denmark on Saturday. On a night when Bartosz Zmarzlik claimed his fifth world title, it was Lambert who stood atop the podium in Vojens following his maiden GP victory. "Like Bartek said, the first win is always the best one," he said afterwards. "I am the kind of person who is never happy with where I finish. I'm happy for the moment but we obviously push for the next one now. I have finally done it, I can tick that off in my career book and move on to bigger and better things.
